Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, non-profit medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, pandemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. MSF started working in Yemen since 1986 and have been present in the country continuously since 2007. Today, MSF works in 23 hospitals across the country and provides support to more than 17 health facilities across 13 governorates, in line with our principles of independence, impartiality and neutrality. Other suitable candidates will be included in a pool of casual workers Location: Aden Project – MSF Premises Contract duration: Six (6) months, with the possibility of extension Contract type: Fixed-Term contract Reporting to: HR/FIN Assistant Main Purpose: Prepare and serve balanced, varied, and culturally appropriate meals for MSF staff at designated MSF premises in Aden, including the guest house and project office, in accordance with established menus, dietary requirements, food hygiene standards, and safety regulations. Ensure proper food storage, kitchen cleanliness, and efficient use of supplies to meet staff’s nutritional needs and maintain a safe and pleasant dining environment. Accountabilities: Prepare and serve meals for MSF staff at designated MSF premises in Aden, including the guest house and project office, according to the assigned duty station and operational needs. Plan varied and balanced menus in coordination with the supervisor, taking into account dietary requirements, allergies and, where possible, staff preferences. Comply at all times with food hygiene standards and health and safety procedures. Ensure the proper storage and preservation of food, regularly check expiry dates, and prevent food contamination and waste. Monitor food stocks, anticipate needs and prepare shopping lists. Make purchases only when required and duly authorized. Ensure that meals are prepared and served on time, according to the agreed schedule. When applicable, set the table or prepare the designated dining area before meals, and clear and clean it afterwards. Ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen, dining area, food storage areas, utensils and equipment at the assigned MSF premises. Where applicable, ensure the daily availability of safe drinking water, including cleaning and refilling filters and bottles and replacing batteries when necessary. Clean and disinfect work surfaces, utensils and equipment after use. Dispose of food and kitchen waste appropriately and maintain waste bins in hygienic condition. Take proper care of all equipment provided by MSF. Maintain an up-to-date inventory of MSF kitchen utensils and equipment, including plates, glasses, cutlery and cookware, and report any discrepancies. Immediately report any loss, theft, damage, deterioration, equipment malfunction, hygiene concern or other incident to the supervisor. Promptly inform the supervisor of any issue that may affect meal preparation, food safety or continuity of service. Carry out any other kitchen-related duties requested by the supervisor within the scope of the position and according to operational needs. Education & Experience Literacy essential, minimum one year of professional experience as a cook with an NGO, in the catering or hospitality sector, an office, a guesthouse, or a similar professional environment is desirable. Languages Basic command of English desirable
