Location: Mocha Project Contract Duration: 1 year, renewable. Contract type: Fixed – Term Reporting to: Project Medical Referent Support. MAIN PURPOSE Verbal interpretation, in person or remotely, during daily medical activities (medical round, consultations, interviews, meetings, etc.) and written translations, from the mission language to local language(s) or vice versa, in order to ensure accurate, respectful, fluent and confidential communication between medical staff and local population Accountabilities Inform medical staff about important cultural nuances to consider during a meeting, medical consultation or interview with local people. Participate in staff trainings and meetings as an interpreter. Provide face to face interpreting, as well as during telephone and radio calls or other telecom devices, when necessary. Adapt communication to any circumstances, using appropriate language registry as well as diplomatic and courtesy manners. Translate MSF internal / external documents into local language(s). Keep record of all translated documents. Look after all equipment provided, i.e. dictionaries or other books that belong to MSF. Ensure confidentiality and medical secrecy. MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities Provide professional interpretation services between medical staff and patients, ensuring accurate and culturally appropriate communication. Interpret spoken language, including medical terminology, during consultations, medical procedures, and other interactions. Translate written documents, such as medical records, consent forms, and educational materials, as needed. Serve as a cultural mediator, bridging the gap between different cultural backgrounds and facilitating understanding between healthcare providers and patients. Help patients navigate the healthcare system and understand their rights and responsibilities. Provide cultural insights and sensitivities to medical teams to ensure effective and respectful communication. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient information and medical records. Adhere to professional standards and ethics, ensuring impartiality, neutrality, and accuracy in interpreting. Respect cultural norms and practices while upholding MSF's values and principles. Facilitate language learning and communication among international and national medical staff by providing language support and assistance. Assist in the communication of medical information and translation for medical trainings in maternity to enhance good communication and understanding. Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance interpretation skills, cultural competency, and knowledge of medical terminology. Stay updated on new developments in the field of medical interpretation and humanitarian healthcare. Serve as data encoder whenever needed to support the data team. Respond to other reasonable tasks as requested by the line manager. Requirements Education: Essential secondary education, university degree desirable, health knowledge advisable. Experience: Can speak and write both English and Arabic fluently.
