The northern and southern branches of the YRCS were unified in 1993 into a single national society. It was recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in 1982 and joined the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement the same year. YRCS operates across all governorates of Yemen and enjoys unique and widespread community acceptance for delivering humanitarian services to the most vulnerable. Its humanitarian approach aims to build community resilience during and after disasters. With support from international partners and local communities, YRCS has strengthened its core functions and operational capacity to improve efficiency and deliver effective humanitarian and relief operations throughout Yemen. Role Summary Protection Assistant delivers frontline support for protection activities by identifying protection concerns, facilitating referrals, conducting community outreach, maintaining confidential records, and supporting protection monitoring and response. The role ensures vulnerable individuals access appropriate services and that protection principles are integrated across program activities. Duties and Responsibilities: Case Identification and Referral Carry out regular door to door visits, community walks, and service point checks to identify individuals and families with protection needs. Use standardized screening tools to assess urgency, prioritize cases, and determine immediate protection actions. Complete referral forms, obtain informed consent, and contact service providers to arrange appointments or emergency support. Track referral progress, confirm service uptake, and update case records with outcomes and any barriers encountered. Immediately notify project officer of life threatening or high risk situations and support emergency response measures. Community Outreach and Awareness Develop weekly outreach schedules in coordination with protection monitors, community focal points, and other teams. Facilitate group sessions on protection risks, rights, referral pathways, and available services using participatory methods. Ensure IEC materials are culturally appropriate, translated into local languages, and distributed to target groups. Identify and train community focal points and volunteers to improve early identification and reporting of protection concerns. Record community perceptions, concerns, and suggestions and relay them to program staff for action. Confidential Documentation and Case Files Open and manage confidential case files, ensuring physical and digital security and restricted access. Record detailed case notes, consent forms, referral documentation, and follow up actions in a timely manner. Apply data protection protocols when storing, sharing, or disposing of sensitive information. Draft concise case summaries for case conferences and handovers while preserving confidentiality. Provide documentation and context for multidisciplinary case review meetings and follow up on agreed actions. Coordination and Capacity Building Maintain up to date contact lists for health, legal, psychosocial, and protection partners and coordinate referrals. Represent the team in local protection working groups and share relevant field information. Assist in organizing and delivering basic protection, confidentiality, and referral pathway trainings for staff and volunteers. Build relationships with community leaders, local authorities, and civil society to enhance protection coverage. Monitoring, Reporting, and Analysis Use standardized tools to record incidents, trends, and protection concerns during field visits. Cross check reports through multiple sources and validate information before escalation. Compile weekly and monthly monitoring inputs, highlight trends, and recommend programmatic responses. Maintain simple maps or lists of high risk areas and vulnerable groups to inform targeting and outreach. Protection Mainstreaming and Risk Mitigation Provide practical guidance to program staff on integrating protection principles into distributions and activities. Monitor program activities for potential protection risks and propose mitigation measures. Ensure beneficiary selection, distribution modalities, and site layouts minimize exposure to harm. Emergency Response Support Participate in rapid protection assessments during emergencies and document immediate needs. Provide short term case management and referrals during acute phases until longer term services are available. Support coordination of protection actors during emergency responses and maintain updated referral pathways. Qualifications and Experience: Diploma or degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Rights, Social Sciences, or a related field. Minimum 2 years of experience in protection, GBV, child protection, social work, or community outreach in humanitarian or development settings. Familiarity with protection principles, case management standards, referral pathways, and confidentiality protocols. Experience using case management tools, basic data entry, and mobile data collection platforms. Completion of training in psychological first aid, basic counselling, GBV response, or child protection is desirable. Willingness to travel regularly to field sites and to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends when required. Fluent in Arabic; and good command of English.
