Job Title: Translator - Oromo, Amharic, Tigray Position status: (Full Time) Location: Aden Announcement closing date: 12 Jul 2026 1. About INTERSOS INTERSOS is an independent non-profit humanitarian organization committed to assisting the victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts. Its activities are based on the principles of solidarity, justice, human dignity, equality of rights and opportunities, and respect for diversity and coexistence, paying special attention to the most vulnerable and unprotected people. Reporting to: Hierarchical: Project Manager and Case management supervisor 2. Main Objective / Job Summary The translator (interpreter) will be in charge of translation for and communication with the children to ensure that their voice is being hear and their needs and concerns are been considered by/in the surrounding environment smoothly. She/He should speak, understand the language (Arabic, Oromo, Amharic and Tigray) but also being able to translate back and forward into Arabic. He will be working side to side with the staff members of the center to ensure good understanding and communication. The translator must ensure to respect confidentiality and do no harm principles. The Translator is responsible for accurate translation from Arabic, Oromo, Amharic and Tigray, he/she will support maintaining clear communication between case workers and Ethiopian migrants in Aden. 3. Purpose / Objectives: The purpose/objective of the job of the translator in this context is to facilitate effective communication and understanding between INTERSOS staff and the new arrival and stranded migrants in Aden governorate. The translator will help bridge any language barriers, ensuring that vital information, emergency assistance, and protection measures are effectively conveyed and understood by all parties involved. Their role is crucial in facilitating the provision of necessary aid and support to the migrants, ensuring their safety and well-being. 4. Responsibilities/duties: Providing oral interpretation during meetings, interviews, and other interactions between INTERSOS staff and migrants. Translating written materials such as project documents, guidelines, information leaflets, and consent forms from English to the appropriate language(s) spoken by the migrants. Assisting in the registration process by translating questions and responses between INTERSOS staff and the migrants. Conducting language assessments to determine the language proficiency and needs of the migrants. Ensuring cultural sensitivity and accuracy in translating messages, taking into account any local customs or nuances. Collaborating with other team members, such as social outreach workers, lawyers, MEAL enumerators, nurses, and activity coordinators, to ensure effective communication and understanding. Providing ad hoc translation support as needed during field visits, assessments, and emergency response activities. Keeping accurate records of translation assignments and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information. Participating in training sessions and capacity-building initiatives to enhance translation skills and cross-cultural understanding. Supporting the project manager and protection officer in coordinating and implementing activities to meet the needs of the migrants. Interpret for the mobile clinic and migrants to ensure good delivery and concept of the prescriptions being given. 5. Requirements: Excellent knowledge of Arabic, Oromo, Amharic and Tigray.
